Each dog's skin is different.. it may take some trial and error to find what works best.
Feed a high quality diet for starts. I reccommend california natrual. If the climate is dry, you may want to add some salmon oil to the diet to help with the skin condition.
Dont over-bathe.. this will dry out the skin, and cause irritations. In the winter, my CC is bathed every 7-10 days. He's bathed more in the summer because he plays outside and rolls in stuff.
If you have a pup, you can expect some ';teenage'; acne.. dont go nuts with products or pick at it.. your best bet is just to keep his skin clean, hydrated, and ride it out.
Do use a gentle cleaner.. some people use regular dog shampoo.. I use black soap on my CC's skin.. some people use gentle facial cleansers.. and some CC's need special shampoos to keep their skin clear. Dogs from better lines tend to have better skin.
Use a lotion that is non Comogenic (doesnt clog pores).. I have used Eucerine, Curel ultra healing, Olay quench, and lately I've been using emu oil lotion that I get off ebay.
Sometimes I do switch up products, depending on my CC';s skin. If he is having more breakouts, I will use a mint julep mask to help draw some of the impurities out. This can dry out the skin, so you will not want to use it often.
If his skin is dry, I will use a sugar scrub (you can make your own, 1 part sugar to 1 part olive oil) to help exfoliate his skin. I will use a more moisturizing shampoo on his skin then too. I have used salt scrub too.. but dont use the salt scrub if he has any open sores or scratches on his skin, because it will burn.
You can use a product we call ';listerhazel'; between baths. Some people find that this does help with breakouts.. but some people find it does nothing. So far, its only good to help ';freshen up'; his skin between baths. You use 1 part witchazel, and 1 part original listerine, spray on his skin, and wipe off. Dont use the flavored listerines, because they will leave the skin sticky. Witchhazel is a natural astrigent, and can ussually be found with peroxide and rubbing alchohol. Listerine kills bacteria that may cause blackheads.
Dont go out and get the harsh acne creams, medications, pads, wipes, etc.. more often than not, these dry out the skin and cause more irritations.Does anyone know how to prevent acne and blackheads in Chinese Crested dogs?

Hi,
I have a Chinese Crested and have found treating him like a human works for us. I bathe him daily as I would a child and he has no problems. Use a gentle wash (their PH balance is different to ours) In winter, I dry his head and feet hair with a dryer and the whole process takes only a few minutes. Those I have seen with acne problems are generally not bathed enough and the dirt in their pores creates pimples. Try Aloe Vera Gel as a moisturiser and it is as simple as that.
uhh...dogs don't have acne, buddy.
